Ume Raises $21M in Series B to Empower Merchants with Pix-Native Credit Tools
Ume Series B raises $21M led by Valor and Bewater. Foley & Lardner, WSGR, and BZCP advised as fintech no Brasil expands Pix-based crédito digital.

Ume Series B has closed at USD $21 million, led by Valor Capital Group and Bewater, with participation from existing investors including PayPal Ventures, NFX, Globo Ventures, Canary, and Big Bets. The São Paulo fintech positions itself as the “Visa for merchants”, enabling retailers to operate their own credit operations through a platform built on Pix, AI-powered decisioning, and LLM-driven customer engagement.
The Ume round also mobilized top-tier counsel, with Foley & Lardner LLP representing Ume, alongside BZCP and Wilson Sonsini advising investors.
Ume Series B and the Business Model
Ume’s funding round strengthens a platform designed to give merchants banking-level capabilities in credit. Through its app and embedded infrastructure, Ume offers Limite Ume, a revolving credit line for purchases within the Ume partner network; Pix Parcelado, which enables installment payments using Pix both online and in-store; Empréstimo Pessoal, a personal loan solution for unexpected needs; and Super Compra (super purchasing), financing tailored to higher-value purchases. The company also integrates loyalty and marketing tools directly into its credit stack, allowing merchants to increase engagement and repeat sales.
The Ume app acts as the central hub, letting customers manage credit limits, track purchases, explore partner stores, and receive personalized offers. By bringing payments, credit, loyalty, and collections into one full-stack platform, Ume is redefining embedded finance in Brazil.
Pix Momentum and Ume Series B
The Ume Series B strategy is closely tied to Pix’s accelerating adoption. Pix is Brazil’s digital currency platform. On September 6, 2025, Brazil’s Central Bank reported more than 227 million transactions in a single day, surpassing the prior record of 224.2 million set in July. The value of transfers reached R$ 118.4 billion, the second highest daily total ever recorded. With more than 168 million users—including over 15 million companies—Pix has become the backbone of Brazil’s financial system, underscoring why Ume’s Pix-native credit architecture is positioned for long-term growth.
PayPal Ventures and Ume’s Earlier Financing
Ume’s trajectory accelerated in August 2024, when it raised USD $15 million in Series A equity led by PayPal Ventures, alongside NFX, Globo Ventures, Clocktower Ventures, Big Bets, FJ Labs, Endeavor, and Norte Ventures. In parallel, it also secured a USD $20 million FIDC debt facility backed by Verde Asset, Western Asset, Itaú, Credit Saison, and Milenio.
At the time, PayPal Ventures highlighted Ume’s Pix-native architecture, its AI-driven underwriting models that delivered higher approval rates with controlled defaults, and its early traction across 6,000 merchants and 220,000 consumers, with an 85% repeat purchase rate. This capital injection not only fueled growth but also established Ume as a globally validated fintech player.
Growth Since the Ume Series B
Since the Ume Series B financing, analysts and investors expect the company’s expansion to accelerate further. Building on the momentum from the Series A, Ume has already tripled its GMV to more than R$ 500 million annualized volume, doubled its client base, and surpassed 1 million processed transactions. It has also launched integrated loyalty, marketing, and credit tools for merchants. Industry observers now project that Ume could reach R$ 1 billion in annualized GMVduring 2025.
Strategic Deployment of Ume Series B Funding
The Ume Series B round will be directed to expanding the Pix-enabled credit and payments network, strengthening AI and machine learning infrastructure, and scaling technology and commercial teams across Brazil. CEO Berthier Ribeiroframed the mission as empowering merchants to become their own credit operators, while Valor’s Paulo Passoni and Bewater’s Guilherme Weege highlighted confidence in Ume’s execution and long-term vision.
