Snippets Morning Call: A Snippet flash of the markets at this hour

The Snippets Morning Call – [Thursday, Nov. 25] – Asian stock exchanges close mixed session on US public holidays.

Asian equities closed another one-way session on Thursday, while US equity futures traded in the positive as investors gauge China’s efforts to ensure its economic recovery as well as robust US expansion, which could accelerate the withdrawal of monetary stimulus in the coming months.

MSCI’s Asia-Pacific stock index fell: stocks closed negative in Hong Kong and China, where Beijing urged local governments to increase investment to curb their economic slowdown.

The latest data from the US showed a solid economic recovery, including consumer spending, which proved resilient despite persistent price pressures. Fed officials, in their latest meeting minutes, were open to a faster removal of political support to curb inflation.

Reports from the US showed that personal spending increased in October more than expected, while inflation registered the biggest annual increase in three decades. Jobless claims fell to the lowest level since 1969.

Global markets remain close to their maximums, even as central banks reduce their monetary accommodation and as Covid cases increase in Europe.
